"MoogFest", you say? What's that? Some of us "oldies-but-goodies"who were around in the 1960's when Robert Moog developed his electronic keyboard music machine delighted in William Carlos' performances in "Switched-On Bach" on vinyl records. The sounds were astounding and new. It was a fantastic new take on classical idiom. (Actually, you can get it on CD or download that today, if you've never heard it.) The inventor Robert Moog stayed out of the limelight, lived in Asheville and taught at UNCA, but he was well-known in the music world.
The first-ever Asheville MoogFest is this weekend and features performances and workshops in various venues around town. Some of the very best known performers of today will be here in town: Caribou, Outkast,Jonsi Birgissonand the Thievery Corporation are some of those who will be here.
This is, I would expect, the "1st Annual" MoogFest, since it will be a great success. It is sure to please the devotees of electronic music of all varieties and will also introduce it to many new people.develop an even greater following. Come along and "switch-on"!
