Abbington Green Bed & Breakfast Inn, Asheville, North Carolina: Christmas Decorating Update

Lighting up Abbington Green Bed & Breakfast is something I look forward to with great anticipation each year. Garlands, trees, packages, the antique sleigh are all a part of the glittering display.

No snow yet, here in Asheville...but who knows? Actually, I love "designer snow"...the kind that covers the ground and blankets the trees with just enough snow to take wonderful photos, hum a little of the "Nutcracker Ballet" music or "Winter Wonderland"...and then have it gone in about 24 hours! (Perhaps I ask too much...but I can always hope!)

Abbington Green Bed & Breakfast Inn, Asheville, NC: Christmas is Coming!

We all know the expression, "The calm before the storm"...But Christmas decorating at Abbington Green is just the reverse: It's the "Storm before the calm"!!
I love the Christmas holiday season. For me this is Christmas number 18 here in Asheville, North Carolina. How quickly the time seems to have passed! Each year I can't wait to get out the decorations, and the Christmas china.
Nearly 100 boxes come out of their storage places...not by magic, but with all the help I can get...up and down 3 flights of stairs, again and again and again. Next, the boxes are all put in the Parlor. Next they are divided into groups organized by which room or outdoor area they will be placed. Boxes everywhere! Trees being assembled. Garland and lights on the outdoor banisters. It takes more than 5 days to decorate the Main House first floor and the outdoor porches and decks. 8 full-size trees are outdoors, 2 of those are 9 feet tall. Indoors are 2 more full-size trees: one of those is 9 feet tall. And one of the suites in the Carriage House has a full-size tree in its living room, too. So here is what some of this process looks like! Coming soon: the 'Calm after this storm'!

Abbington Green Bed & Breakfast Inn: An Asheville, NC Christmas is Coming!

In Asheville, we've begun to slide seamlessly into the Christmas season! This weekend Christmas will be in full swing at fabulous Biltmore Estate, just across town from us. America's largest privately owned home ushers in the Christmas holidays we happily follow suit.
So far we have gotten out all our boxes of decorations, put up seven full-size trees on porches and decks (some are 6.5 feet while others are 9 feet tall), hung yards and yards of lighted garland on our outdoor railings. It takes at least 5 days to decorate the main floor, get out the Christmas china and light up the outdoor spaces. You can see some photos of previous year at our website, in the section called "Main House" At the bottom choose the photo called "Holidays".
This year we've gone to nearly all LED saving and very lovely lighting effect. Will keep you posted on progress with some pictures soon!
