Asheville Bed and Breakfast Smiles and Greets "Moogfest 2011"

So, how many of you know what a "Moog synthesizer" is? Maybe quite a few of you.  But for those who don't, it's a musical instrument whose sounds are created entirely electronically. And Robert Moog himself, was here in Asheville and was the developer and 'prefecter' of this new musical the 1960s. My first experience with it was in 1964 when I heard and then purchased a 33rpm record called "Switched-on Bach" featuring Bach fugues and gigues like you had never heard them! In those days, Moog had to lay down the music tracks one at a time as harmony and a true keyboard was not yet in operation. It was, as they say "iconic"...truly revolutionary. I still have that recording, and a DVD put together more recently by his daughter.

Asheville's Moogfest last year was a great success with musicians from all over the world who use synthesizers. The variation in the types of music is as large as your imagination. And this year, "Moogfest 2011" is this weekend right here in Asheville, in a variety of venues around town just blocks from our Asheville bed and breakfast.  So come on over to Asheville. See the mountains with the copper and bronze shades of Fall leaves and listen to some of the most inventive music that you'll ever hear. You'll be glad you did!

Asheville Bed and Breakfast is Smiling at the Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands

Yes, lucky us!  If you're coming to Asheville this weekend, you're in for a treat.  Just a few blocks from this Asheville bed and breakfast, at the Asheville Civic Center, is the Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands from today through Sunday.

If you want to see the very best of "hand-crafted", the members of the Southern Highlands Craft Guild will show it to you.  Coming from all over the South, these talented craftspeople gather twice a year in Asheville where the Guild is based.  The array of crafters is amazing. You'll see hand-made musical instruments...and people who know how to play them will be there to entertain you. Hand-made glass  is beautiful and the people who create it are a delight to talk to. Jewelry is as individual as the people who wear will not be disappointed if you look for a piece that seems to express you, too. Need a place to sit?  Chairs, benches and more wood working are there for your pleasure...Pottery?  Breathtaking talent.

Need more encouragement? The weather forecast for is weekend is great.  The mountains around Asheville, and near our Asheville bed and breakfast , have been transformed  by the Fall leaves into an exquisite tapestry. And of course Asheville has all of its food and wines and breweries that make this area a "happening" place at all times!  I hope I'll see you there!

Asheville Bed and Breakfast Invites You To Enjoy Fall in Asheville

In each season , in and around Asheville and always near our Asheville bed and breakfast, there are days, or sometimes weeks when you would like to "bottle" the day and save it forever. Well, today was just such a day. And we're due for more of them.  The mountains of green around Asheville are turning yellow and orange. They look like a tapestry with colors blending in and standing out. The sky was bright blue with a few clouds floating by. The sun felt warm on my face. The temperature registered  70 degrees on our back porch. Ah yes, a perfect Fall day!

If you know Asheville, even a little, you'll know that you don't have to leave Asheville to see the mountains and Fall color. All around town, as you stop at an intersection or park your car, you're very likely to see mountains. And the lovely thing about that is you can see miles and miles from many locations around town.  Just today on my way back to the Inn from doing some errands, I came west on route I-240. Between exits 6 and 5, I could see more that 20 miles out to Mt Pisgah (where George Vanderbilt had a hunting lodge in the stands out because it has a radio tower on the top). Glorious!

I hope you'll have an opportunity to visit Asheville...and of course, our Asheville bed and breakfast! The views, and the weather willing, are just wonderful in October! y'all come!

Asheville Celebrates with "Guys and Dolls" Through Next Weekend

Did you know that Nathan Detroit has come to Asheville?  Detroit in Asheville? Yes! And right near our Asheville bed and breakfast.  Especially if you know that Nathan Detroit (a gambler and life-long-avoider-of-marriage) is one of the many memorable characters  in the musical "Guys and Dolls" With one of the most fabulous Broadway musical scores ever created by Frank Loesser, "Guys and Dolls" will steal your heart and make you smile.

So while you're watching this Asheville Community Theatre production, and maybe also tapping your toes... or briefly wondering whether you too could do that particular dance move...the story of some very lovable gamblers ( involving the 'famous floating crap-game in New York..') and some very dedicated soul-savers unfolds.  Naturally, as in the good-old-days, the good guys eventually win...and some guys who never would have thought about trying it, even sign-on to become good guys. A lovely story of a bet, of  love ('Your eyes are the eyes of a woman in love...') and the satisfaction of (at least occasionally) doing the right thing at the right time ('Sit down, sit down, sit down, sit down your rockin' the boat...')

So remember, you have through next weekend to take in "Guys and Dolls":  Friday and Saturday, October 7th and 8th at 7:30pm at A.C.T. in Downtown Asheville and Sunday October 9th at 2:30 pm.
